VBI Financial Aid

VBI sponsors a limited number of need-based partial scholarships. Financial aid awards will be applied toward the program tuition. Since financial assistance covers only part of the the expenses, applicants are encouraged to explore additional funding sources, such as schools, civic organizations and businesses.

To be considered for a financial aid award, this completed application along with all requested supplemental documents must be received by March 11, 2010. Incomplete packets will not be considered. Applicants will be notified by email by April 8, 2010.

Please note: Students submitting financial aid applications are NOT automatically enrolled to VBI. If awarded a scholarship, students will be placed in space reserved for financial aid applicants. If the camper plans to attend the program regardless of whether or not s/he is awarded financial aid, please fill out the normal registration form.

Instructions:
1. Complete and submit the online application
2. Mail or fax in the following documents:
a. 2009 Federal Income Tax Return(s) and 2009 W-2 form(s) and other supporting financial documentation.
b. Coach’s Recommendation
c. Student statement
d. Any optional supporting information

Income information
If a family does not file a Federal Income Tax Return or receive a W-2 form, please explain why in the Optional Information.

Coach Recommendation
A current coach should submit a recommendation. This recommendation should be included with the full application.

The recommendation should discuss the following:
- Student’s strengths as a debater
- Student’s attitude toward and experiences in debate
- Ways in which the student would benefit from this program
- Unique contributions the student would offer the program
- Student’s social and emotional maturity

Student Statement
Please include a short statement indicating:
- why you wish to attend VBI
- what you hope to learn from attending the program
- what you have to contribute to the program
- how many tournaments you hope to attend in your debate career
- what your aspirations are as a debater.
