Spain Park Announces New Tournament
Oliver Parker, director of forensics at Spain Park High School, has announced the details of the Rubicon, his program’s inaugural tournament. The Rubicon has a bid to the TOC in Public Forum Debate at the final round.
Dear Coaches,
I would like to announce a new speech and debate tournament, the Spain Park High School “Rubicon” which will be held on November 11 – 12 in Birmingham, Alabama. This will be our inaugural tournament, and we hope to establish a long and successful tournament tradition at Spain Park. We were host to the 2009 NFL National Tournament, and we have been selected to host again for the 2013 NFL National Tournament. This will be a great opportunity to check out the local scene before your teams qualify next year.
Our tournament was selected by the Tournament of Champions to have a TOC FINALS bid in PUBLIC FORUM debate. Also, we intend to have a NOVICE POLICY division which will be judged by many fine coaches including Skip Coulter, retired coach at Samford University. Members of the Samford policy team will also be available to lend their advice and critiques. Students from the University of Alabama Speech Team will come to judge the Individual Events, and we offer a host of opportunities for IE’s. We have many fine judges for LINCOLN DOUGLAS, novice and varsity divisions. We will have a STUDENT CONGRESS following new NFL guidelines. And we are offering SUPPLEMENTAL DEBATE for debate students not advancing to outrounds.
We trust that you will find our judges’ lounge satisfactory with complementary meals and refreshments served throughout the tournament. We want to put on a great show for our first big tournament, and it is our mission that our hospitality leaves you with a lasting impression.
