It’s summertime, and for many high school coaches and debaters, that means it’s already time to plan for the season ahead. At which tournaments will you and your team compete this coming season?
VBI2011: Happy Birthday, Erik Legried!
Today we celebrate the birthday of Erik Legried, past Minnesota State Champion in Lincoln Douglas Debate from the Blake School and present faculty member at VBI@UCLA. Erik’s lab students and co-lab leader Marshall Thompson joined yours truly, Jon Cruz, in a rousing version of the birthday song to celebrate Erik’s big day.
VBI2011: Practice Round 1
The pairings for the first practice round are available online. The divisions are named for three of our past camp leaders: Oscar Shine, Tommy Clancy, and Neil Conrad. (The Conrad Division will begin its practice rounds later.)

VBI2011: Wednesday Skills & Drills
This morning, students — divided into groups called Ice, Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth — are engaging in a skills practicum and a related drill battery. The subject? “Standards & Framework.” (Ice and Fire got started on tomorrow’s practicum, “Refutation.)

Jim Menick of Hendrick Hudson High School, Jon Cruz of the Bronx High School of Science, Chris Palmer of Lexington High School, and Mike Bietz of Harvard-Westlake School have released the latest installment of their podcast, The View from Tab. (Cruz took the night off.)
In the forty-sixth episode, now available for download, Menick, Palmer, and Bietz discuss the NDCA and its National Championship.
