NDCA Names Bump Tournament of the Year
SCRANTON, Penn. — Each year, the National Debate Coaches Association recognizes a specific school as the Outstanding Tournament Host of the Year. This year, Hendrick Hudson High School’s Malcolm A. Bump Memorial Tournament was recognized as a model of excellence for regional tournaments. Specifically noted was the tournament’s transparency, its tradition of alumni support, its hospitality, and its low fees (and free housing). Jim Menick received the award on behalf of Hendrick Hudson High School.
Rich Edwards Receives NDCA Outstanding Service Award
SCRANTON, Penn. — Rich Edwards — long-time coach of Baylor University, past president and current vice president of the American Forensic Association, and the creator of the tabulation software TRPC — was presented with this year’s NDCA Outstanding Service Award in recognition of his tremendous contributions to tournament administration literally worldwide.
Abby Schirmer Named NDCA Rising Star
SCRANTON, Penn. — Abby Schirmer, head debate coach at Stratford Academy, has been named the recipient NDCA’s new Rising Star Award. The award recognizes someone who has made a noticable, positive impact on the team they coach and the community at large, and who maintains a good balance between educator and success of their own team. The recipient must be in their first three years of full-time employment at a school.
Diana Li Wins Six Rounds of Spring Round Robin
HARRISON, N.Y. — Hunter College High School’s Diana Li is the winner of the sixth annual Six Rounds of Spring Round Robin, having bested Byram Hills High School’s Sammi Cannold in the final round on a5-0 decision. Read more →
